Holiday Essential Tip: Create a Chic Seasonal Tablescape (omg!)

Holiday Essential Tip: Create a Chic Seasonal Tablescape

When it comes to having the family over for holiday dinner, sometimes planning the menu is the easy part.

Whether you're hosting four or 14 people for a seasonal meal, Us Weekly has you covered, thanks to entertaining guru Mark Addison. Here, Addison shares three fun ideas for unique holiday tablescapes.

MIX AND MATCH HOLIDAY TABLE
"Think of your table top as an extension of your closet and personal style," says our expert. "Mix traditional with modern and even eclectic pieces, top basics with flea market finds or borrow complementary patterns from friends and family. Mix colors and patterns to make each person's place setting unique."

LIVING HOLIDAY TABLE
Tired of boring Poinsettia displays? Try Addison's chic and easy idea for a Living Wreath Centerpiece: Start with a floral foam wreath form and securely pin some topical moss to the wreath form. Then add color, texture and visual interest by layering miniature orchids, berries, and other festive florals into the wreath, making sure to cover the root balls with moss to keep them from drying out. To finish off your new accessory, place a clear cylinder vase into the center of the wreath and fill it with colored water and floating candles.

CANDYLAND TABLE
To make sure the kids behave during dinner, try Addison's sweet -- and chic -- idea for a Candyland-inspired table. First, lay out a red tablecloth, green napkins and plain white dinner plates. To spruce up the plates, bejewel them with jelly beans, attached to the plate with royal icing used as glue. For an extra yummy effect, Addison suggests adding an edible centerpiece using lollipops and candy canes arranged in brightly colored flower pots lined with chocolate rice cereal as "dirt." The best part? This centerpiece also doubles as dessert, since guests can graze right from the pots.

Bob Marley heirs sue half brother over name use

(AP) ? A feud has erupted within the first family of reggae, with the widow and nine children of Bob Marley suing his half brother to stop use of the Marley name to promote an annual Miami music festival and profit from other businesses in his native Jamaica.

The lawsuit filed Thursday in federal court contends the half brother, businessman Richard Booker, and several affiliated companies are violating copyright and trademark laws by using Marley's name, photographs, lyrics, symbols and other intellectual property without authorization.

The lawsuit says people could be deceived into thinking those uses are officially endorsed by Marley's widow, Rita Marley, and their children. Booker and Bob Marley shared the same mother.

The entities include the Bob Marley Movement of Jah People Inc., which promotes the music festival, a restaurant in Jamaica called Mama Marley's and several businesses with the name Nine Mile ? the part of Jamaica where Marley grew up and is now buried. One Nine Mile business offers a tour of the area, and the music event is known as the Nine Mile Music Festival.

In addition, a recent press release about the music festival included this headline: "All For The Love Of Bob Marley." The 19th annual festival is scheduled for March of next year on Virginia Key, near Miami. Three of Marley's kids ? Stephen, Damien and Julian Marley ? are scheduled to perform.

Marley, a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, died of cancer in 1981 at age 36. Some of his best-known songs are "I Shot The Sheriff," ''Jamming," ''No Woman, No Cry," ''Get Up, Stand Up" and "Exodus."

The lawsuit, filed by Fort Lauderdale attorney Bruce Hemerlee, seeks unspecified damages and also asks a judge to stop Booker and the companies from using any Marley-related references in the various ventures. Hemerlee represents Rita Marley and the children through a Bahamas-based entity called Fifty-Six Hope Road Music Ltd.

Booker, whose home and businesses are in Miami, did not immediately return a telephone call Friday seeking comment. A spokeswoman at his business said a statement may be issued later.

According to the festival's website, the event's roots date to a Bob Marley fan club begun in 1981. That gradually grew into the music festival and related food drive that has collected more than 2 million canned goods for shelters in Miami and Jamaica.

The lawsuit says that Rita Marley and her children have long opposed Booker's attempts to trademark Marley-related business names and that at one point they reached a licensing deal, but Booker reneged on the deal.

Check here frequently, because missions that your character has an opportunity to go on will be posted here. If they show up in a post here, then it is on the bulletin board inside the school's main building. These missions are never a lone-wolf thing, and as in the school rules, a teacher must also be present. Although it does not need to be one that knows how to fight, because the ones that don't are at least trained in driving around the jeep for transport and are a marksman with an elephant gun. Completing these missions will grant you strength, as they are usually quite trying to your person's health. It will also grant you popularity, and trust me, if you are not popular then things can get pretty tough for you at Karma High. A student may not go on a mission during the school week, so at most they have three and a half days to complete their mission.

As for battles, if they so happen to be official, with a teacher present, they will be recorded here. If it shows up on a post here, then it is in the official records, and brings your character closer to the top, or further from it should they fail.

Mayans never predicted world to end in 2012: experts

      PALENQUE, Mexico | Fri Dec 2, 2011 10:06am EST

PALENQUE, Mexico (Reuters) - If you are worried the world will end next year based on the Mayan calendar, relax: the end of time is still far off.

So say Mayan experts who want to dispel any belief that the ancient Mayans predicted a world apocalypse next year.

The Mayan calendar marks the end of a 5,126 year old cycle around December 12, 2012 which should bring the return of Bolon Yokte, a Mayan god associated with war and creation.

Author Jose Arguelles called the date "the ending of time as we know it" in a 1987 book that spawned an army of Mayan theorists, whose speculations on a cataclysmic end abound online. But specialists meeting at this ancient Mayan city in southern Mexico say it merely marks the termination of one period of creation and the beginning of another.

"We have to be clear about this. There is no prophecy for 2012," said Erik Velasquez, an etchings specialist at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). "It's a marketing fallacy."

The National Institute of Anthropological History in Mexico has been trying to quell the barrage of forecasters predicting the apocalypse. "The West's messianic thinking has distorted the world view of ancient civilizations like the Mayans," the institute said in a statement.

In the Mayan calendar, the long calendar count begins in 3,114 BC and is divided into roughly 394-year periods called Baktuns. Mayans held the number 13 sacred and the 13th Baktun ends next year.

Sven Gronemeyer, a researcher of Mayan codes from La Trobe University in Australia, who has been trying to decode the calendar, said the so-called end day reflects a transition from one era to the next in which Bolon Yokte returns.

"Because Bolon Yokte was already present at the day of creation ... it just seemed natural for the Mayan that Bolon Yokte will again be present," he said.

Of the approximately 15,000 registered glyphic texts found in different parts of what was then the Mayan empire, only two mention 2012, the Institute said.

"The Maya did not think about humanity, global warming or predict the poles would fuse together," said Alfonso Ladena, a professor from the Complutense University of Madrid. "We project our worries on them."
