Video: NY Times reporter on Armstrong: ?He really wants to get back?

>>> according to lance armstrong 's twitter account, the former cycling champ is enjoying some r&r in hawaii a day after "the new york times" article reported he is considering making a public admission about using performance-enhancing drugs. mark potter reports, a confession of any kind could bring him even more trouble.

>> reporter: throughout his celebrated career, champion cyclist, lance armstrong , vehemently denied allegations he was doping.

>> have you ever, ever in the history of this race used performance-enhancing drugs?

>> absolutely not, not once.

>> reporter: in the wake of a damming drug report that led to him being stripped of his seven tour de france titles and banned for life from competition, "the new york times" sources are saying that armstrong has told associates and anti-doping officials that he is considering publicly admitting that he used banned performance-enhancing drugs and blood transfusions during his cycling career. reporter, julian mckerr, wrote the story.

>> i think he is suffering pretty badly from i'm not competing anymore syndrome. the driving factor is that he wants to compete in triathlons again and also run in different events with his kids.

>> reporter: armstrong 's lawyer says there are no on going discussions with anti-doping agencies. he would not comment further. " sports illustrated " senior writer predicts if there ever is a confession, it could be complicated and won't happen soon.

>> it doesn't guarantee he will be reinstated and have the ability to compete again. it also will increase his exposure in several civil lawsuits, possibly to criminal charges as well.

>> reporter: epstein also says for a confession to lead to armstrong 's reenstatement, it would have to be very detailed.

>> he would have to give information that would lead potentially to sanctions against doctors involved in the sport, to officials that governed cycling.

>> reporter: outside armstrong 's bicycle shop in austin, texas, there are mixed reactions to reports of a possibility confession.

>> if he admitted it and he is no longer doping, i don't see why he can't race.

>> reporter: a lot of talk of what he might say but no word from armstrong himself. mark potter , nbc news, miami.
