Men in Black: Alien Crisis smells like nothing more than a tie-in promotion. Both the video game and the movie launch this month, but if the trailers are any indicator?this might be a game you want to pass on. This action-adventure, following neither of our favorite agents but a new recruit named Peter Delacoeur, The game will be released for all the major consoles: PS3, Xbox 360, and the Wii on May 22, 2012 with the movie following on May 25, 2012. But between the graphics and the $60 price tag, this just isn?t a high-caliber game. So if you?re expecting a game comparable to any of the recent releases, look elsewhere. It is rated TEEN for mild language, mild suggestive themes, and violence, but the game seems most appropriate for young teens. The violence is more suggestive than anything, because killing aliens is little more than aim, shoot, and then flashy colors erupting all over the screen. The presentation is just severely lacking. When you?re releasing it next to all these other games, it?s more disappointing than anything. We have high expectations nowadays with the release of high-quality, high-caliber games that indulge all the senses, but this Men in Black game definitely doesn?t meet those expectations.?
In the debut trailer, we?re given a rundown of the storyline for this game. The back story for the new recruit, Peter Delacoeur, is clich? and typical; a former ?master thief,? he brags about how he always gets what he wants, and that the fun is getting away with it. Once recruited into the clandestine alien killer group, he (or you, rather) is key in stopping an alien plot to steal an artifact that would control the world. At least that?s somewhat intriguing. The debut trailer ends with an alien?looking more like an overgrown plant?busting out from the street, and the graphics would only thrill a five-year-old. Peter Delacoeur tells us to ?get ready, it?s going to be one wild ride.? Right.
You can upgrade and have weapon combinations, though. In all actuality, the weapon system might be the best aspect of the game. The game includes all the weapons we know and love, like that little Noisy Cricket, but the trailers reveal that (besides a quick glimpse of Frank the Pug) the overlap between the movies and the game ends there. It?s sad because the Men in Black universe is very interesting and somewhat complicated, but between the graphics, clich? back story, and lame dialogue?Men in Black: Alien Crisis pales in comparison to the movies. It has the guns and the characters in black suits, and it has the aliens? but what it doesn?t have is satisfying game play. The way killing aliens is displayed isn?t nearly as satisfying as it is in the movies. We do get a decent amount of different kinds of aliens?big ones, small ones, scary ones?but besides the weapons and the aliens, this game?s got nothing and you?d be better off just watching the movie. ?
