The security of digital assets of any company is crucial. That is why you must always ensure that your business data is safe and secure. You also need to make sure that it is well out of reach of irrelevant people. Here are five methods you can adopt to do just that
One
Limit the people who have access to the company data. This will cut down the risks of any data theft and you can narrow down your investigation in case of a data leak. Only give data access to those people who are trustworthy. Allowing a large number of people to have access to the data can lead to more hacking attempts as well.

Backups. Always keep multiple backups of your data in external hard drives, DVDs, memory sticks etc. You can lose your business data to a host of reasons such as hardware malfunction and viruses. Having a backup will provide you a cushion on which to rely on. Ideally speaking you should backup the entire data daily but it the frequency of backups primarily depends on the amount of digital data your business produces.
Three
Passwords and encryption. Keep a password at least 7 characters strong with numeric values in it. Encryption of the data is equally important. Use good encryption software for encryption. This will keep hackers from accessing data even if they do manage to get away with the data. Change password regularly. Ideally you should change the password of your database atleast every three months. Passwords that are kept for longer are after a while known to workers and that can pose a security risk to your digital assets. Make use of firewalls and do not allow your employees to download any software without your permission.
