The community is invited to comment on Sunshine Coast Council?s Draft Caloundra Central Park Sport and Recreation Precinct Master Plan
The draft plan is for the popular Caloundra sporting and recreation precinct and identifies what the precinct will look like and how it will function into the future.
Community members can either provide written comment or attend a community consultation workshop on Thursday 6 October at 6pm at the Caloundra Cricket Club, Nicholls Street, Caloundra.
Division 2 Councillor Tim Dwyer said the purpose of the master plan is to maximise community use of the sporting precinct over the next 15 years.
?Council is seeking input from the community to check that the draft master plan adequately meets their needs,? Cr Dwyer said. ?
?We have completed extensive reviews with the community on how the facility is currently used.
?And we have tried to match future development of the precinct with the aspirations of user groups and the whole community.
?This is a great opportunity for the community to provide recommendations for the future sport and recreation use of the precinct.?
The draft plan identifies significant population growth in the area and the resulting increased demand for quality sport and recreation facilities.
Key recommendations include: a regional tennis centre, expanded opportunities for rugby league, rugby union, cricket and mallet sports, additional signage, improved traffic flow and management, stronger pathway linkages and additional infrastructure to support increased demand on facilities.
The draft plan identifies an emerging demand for gymnastic facilities and the community?s increased participation in active lifestyle related activities.
?This is a wonderful example of sport and recreation master planning and is the result of input from the local community,? Cr Dwyer said.
?I encourage the community to attend the upcoming workshop or provide written comment that will assist with final amendments to the plan.?
