Q&A: What would you do if you were me? | Education Reference

Question by fan1906: What would you do if you were me?
I have recently acquired a degree in teaching English as a second language and I have not even had an offer to teach for the upcoming year.
While I was in school, the professors told us there would be enough jobs for everyone, turns out this was not true. I have been struggling to make ends meet for the past 2 years, I have a friend who has been teaching the same subject I teach in the same school board and who is still at 50% of a teacher?s full task after 7 years (hence 50% of a teacher?s full-time salary).
I am 26 years old and I do plan to eventually buy a house and have a child before it?s too late so here are my three options :
- Continue to struggle through teaching, because I do love teaching, I just hate the idea that I?m basically unemployed right now, except for substitute teaching.
- Find another job that is not related to teaching with the skills I have acquired so far.
- Go back to college to get a degree in industrial relations, even if that would mean adding onto my student debt and make things harder on my relationship, since my lovely boyfriend would have to support me once again.

What would you do if you were me?

Go back to school and hope that it pays off.

I have a friend in your situation. He got a History degree with a teachers certificate and only found jobs substitute teaching. He is now in the Army.
